SCOPE
-----
The whole repository: the R pipeline, the command line, the learned layer in
ml/, the app, the configuration, the tests, the documentation, the sonification
module, and any audio, MIDI or score published under the TissueSpectF name.

One licence, no exceptions. No file in this repository states different terms;
if you find one, it is a bug and this file governs.


WHAT YOU MAY DO

Use, copy, modify, distribute and build upon this work, including distributing
modified versions, for any NON-COMMERCIAL purpose, provided you give
appropriate credit, link to the licence, and indicate whether changes were made.

Academic research, teaching, peer review and reproducing a published result are
all non-commercial uses and need no permission.

WHAT REQUIRES PERMISSION
------------------------
Commercial use: anything primarily intended for or directed toward commercial
advantage or monetary compensation. That includes use inside a for-profit
service or product, sale of recordings or scores derived from the sonification,
and sync placement in film, television, advertising or games.

NOT COVERED, AND NOT CLAIMABLE
------------------------------
Fourier analysis of genomic data, spectral decomposition of expression signals,
and the practice of sonifying scientific data are mathematical methods and
general techniques. No claim is made over them.

The frequencies, peaks, periods, phases and gene assignments the pipeline
computes are measurements. Measurements are facts, and facts are not authored.

Output you generate by running this pipeline on your own data is yours.


TWO THINGS TO KNOW
------------------
1. CC BY-NC is not a software licence. Creative Commons advises against CC for
   code: it carries no source-code, patent or warranty-disclaimer provisions the
   way MIT, Apache-2.0 and the GPL do. This is a deliberate choice here, not an
   oversight, but it has consequences -- see (2).

2. NC is not an open-source licence. Some journals, funders and institutional
   repositories require a deposit to be under an OSI-approved open licence, and
   this is not one. Debian, conda-forge and similar will not package it. If a
   deposit requirement applies to you, the usual resolution is to license the
   pipeline permissively and keep CC BY-NC on the sonification and the audio.
