How to prevent newlines in rich print output?

Hey, I'm not sure if it's possible to prevent Rich's print/pretty interface from displaying newlines in the output. Here is my current code and output:

output = rich.pretty.Pretty(
    tree,
    indent_guides=False,
    max_depth=max_depth,
    indent_size=indent,
)

 rich.print(output)

I'd like to keep the highlighted syntax but put everything in a single line (like doing output.replace("\n", "")) and clean repeated whitespace.

The line breaks are produced by Pretty itself, not by rich.print. Rich's pretty-printer expands a container when its representation doesn't fit the available max_width (or when expand_all=True).

If you want a one-line Rich-rendered representation, give the pretty-printer a width large enough for the whole representation rather than removing newlines after rendering. For example:

from rich.pretty import Pretty
from rich import print

output = Pretty(
    tree,
    indent_guides=False,
    max_depth=max_depth,
    indent_size=indent,
    max_width=10_000,
)
print(output, soft_wrap=True)

Or, if you need the representation as a string first:

from rich.pretty import pretty_repr

text = pretty_repr(tree, max_width=10_000, max_depth=max_depth)

I checked the current implementation: Node.render() starts with one line and only expands an expandable node when line.check_length(max_width) fails (unless expand_all is set). So increasing max_width prevents structural pretty-print expansion while preserving Rich's normal representation logic.

One caveat: if an object's own custom __repr__ literally contains newline characters, that's different — those characters originate in the object's repr. But for normal nested dict/list/etc. pretty expansion, max_width is the control you want; stripping \n afterward can accidentally concatenate tokens that originally needed separation.
