Whenever I try to advance or go back through the photos using the simple remote control, a menu pops up instead. That menu allows me to move forward, play a slideshow, or go backward, but I simply want to advance from one photo to the next by pressing a button. Is there a setting I can change to make it work that way?

The photo viewer supports the fast forward / rewind keys on your remote to quickly navigate between photos without showing the user interface. I believe we can add the normal dpad left/right buttons to that mix as well, feel free to open a feature request for that.
