Title: How to distinguish ocean from small lakes/ponds in the water layer for filtering?

I'm using the Protomaps basemap (v4, daily build) with MapLibre for a data map. I want to have a coastline stroke around the ocean only, and hide outlines for small inland water (lakes, ponds, reservoirs) so they don't clutter the map under my raster.

The problem: when I inspect water features with queryRenderedFeatures, many small ponds come back with exactly the same properties as the ocean:

   kind: "water", kind_detail: undefined, reservoir: undefined, name: "", min_zoom: undefined

So I can't write a filter expression that separates them... kind is "water" for both ocean and these ponds, and there's no area or size property to filter on.

A few questions:

Is there a reliable property in the v4 schema to distinguish ocean polygons from small lakes/ponds? I see the docs list kind values water/lake/playa/ocean/other, but in practice many features (including the ocean at some zooms, and many ponds) come through as just kind: "water".

Does kind change across zoom levels for the same feature? I've observed the ocean tagged ocean at some zooms and water at others, which breaks inclusion filters.

Is there a way to get a polygon area attribute baked into the water layer, short of building the whole basemap myself with a modified Planetiler profile?

For my use case (ocean coastline yes, inland water outlines no), is there a recommended pattern? Should I be using the boundaries layer for coastlines instead?

Can you link to a specific map view on https://maps.protomaps.com where the ocean is tagged as kind=water and prevents you from styling this? kind=ocean does exist but in some places it may be a consequence of OSM tagging conventions for bays, etc
