Part 2: Valid day being masked

Hello, I am relatively new to using GGIR. I am on part 2 with my dataset, and I am unsure why recording day 8 is being masked when my data masking strategy asks for 7 days and the most active days. I even lowered the criteria for a valid day to 10 hours, and it still isn't included. Does anyone have any ideas?
I am in Portland, and the Actigraphs were initialized to Pacific time, and as you see, the desired time zone is America/Los Angeles, so I don't think it is a time zone issue.

That is indeed odd. I am not able to reproduce it on my own test data.

Could you share with me the corresponding:

• config.csv file as stored by GGIR in your output folder.
• .RData file from the meta/basic output subfolder?

Your colleague Sydnee reached out to be about this, to which I replied via email on February 13, 2026:

data_masking_strategy = 5 currently only looks at complete calendar days, this is why it does not consider the last recording day which ends before midnight. I agree that it is not ideal considering that the last day is almost complete.

data_masking_strategy = 3 may be a better alternative for now, but I noticed that it does not work correctly on your file, so I spent some time tidying up and improving the GGIR code related to this functionality. When I now run this the last day is entirely included.

You can test the result by installing GGIR via:
remotes::install_github("wadpac/GGIR", ref = "discussion1458_data_masking_strategy_3and5")

don't forget to set data_masking_strategy = 3

My plan is to include this in the next GGIR release.

EDIT: This has been merged in GGIR 3.3-5

If would like the option data_masking_strategy = 5 to be enhanced to also consider partial days at the start and end of the recording then I can do that for you as part of a paid consultancy.
