🏗️ Architecture

IDECloud relies on a robust microservice-oriented architecture:

• Frontend: React + Vite, Monaco Editor, React Router, Xterm.js
• Backend API: Express.js + Node.js
• Real-Time Engine: Socket.IO powered by Redis Pub/Sub for horizontal scalability
• Database: MongoDB for user and workspace persistence
• Sandboxing: Docker Engine (dockerode) for isolated workspaces and CI/CD runners

🚀 Quick Start

The easiest way to spin up the entire IDECloud stack is using Docker Compose.

Prerequisites

• Docker & Docker Compose
• Node.js v20 (if running locally without Docker)

1. Run the Infrastructure

Start MongoDB, Redis, and the IDECloud Backend:

docker-compose up -d

The backend server will be exposed on http://localhost:3001.

2. Run the Client

In a new terminal, install dependencies and start the frontend:

cd client
npm install
npm run dev

The frontend will be available at http://localhost:5173.

🛠️ Manual Setup

If you prefer to run the backend natively without Docker Compose (useful for development):

# 1. Start your own MongoDB and Redis instances
# 2. Configure environment variables in server/.env

# 3. Start Backend
cd server
npm install
npm run dev

# 4. Start Frontend
cd client
npm install
npm run dev

Note: Native execution requires Docker to be running on your host machine to provision workspace sandboxes.
